The pandemic has encouraged a lot of us to develop new ways of teaching online. There are strengths and weaknesses to online teaching, just as there are to realspace teaching.
The main strengths are that online work allows people the convenience and safety of working in private spaces. That sense of safety is an important element in creating an environment for growth and learning. The lack of need for travel, overnight accommodation etc. also makes online learning affordable, environmentally sustainable and accessible.
I have developed three key ways of exploiting the strengths of online teaching.
One-On-One Training – bespoke task-based training for performers.
Mentorship – individual conversation for teachers, makers, performers exploring their personal journeys
5-Step Performing – small group work that offers structured ways of translating script to performance
